Real-Life Frights – Things that are Way Scarier than Halloween!
With Halloween creeping up on us this week we hope you have been enjoying the spooky season because it’s all about to end with Halloween tomorrow! We all love a good fright this time of year… all of the spooky decorations, haunted house attractions, and eerie costumes. While you’re getting your creepy costume ready for Halloween night remember that it doesn’t take a trip through a haunted house to send a chill down your spine. Real life has its own collection of scary stuff too. Can’t imagine anything scarier than a clown answering the door for trick or treat? Well, read on!
Being “Seen” but not replied to
Sent a text with no reply, the curser blinks from the respondent but nothing comes back (cue the Twilight Zone music). Later you check for a response, and you see the little “seen” notification but still no response. You can’t escape the growing anxiety of wondering what you said wrong or why they haven’t responded. The whole experience can feel like being left in a haunted house with no escape! It’s the modern ghosting situation.
Using a Public Restroom… and there’s no toilet paper
This real-life horror always seems to happen after you finish your business, right? Now what? Do you ask the unknown person in the next stall to pass some over? Try and stealthily sneak into the next one? Either way, the sheer terror of this situation is a literal nightmare!
The “hitting send too soon” email
You know the one! The email where you didn’t double-check, and now the dreaded typo is heading straight to your boss’s inbox. Or worse still, the email sent complaining about a colleague and that colleague is on the email thread! Nothing like the cold sweat that breaks out the minute you realize your error.
Wi-Fi goes down mid-zoom call
This nightmare begins with an important Zoom meeting or a friends and family call and your Wi-Fi crashes. There for all to see, is the worst possible facial expression frozen on screen. When the screen goes black, you’re left with the horror of wondering how long it will take before you reconnect with a fresh face.
The naked nightmare you’ll never wake up from
Speaking of Zoom, this is certainly one platform that has created many horrific moments. From the microphone left on while you’re playing with your pet cat for all to hear or accidentally turning the camera on during a yoga session nothing beats the frightening time a mother logged into her daughter’s dissertation defense fresh from the shower wearing nothing but a towel… around her waist. In her haste, Mom, not realizing that the camera was on, projected her… ahem… assets, to everyone logged into the dissertation!
Wait… what’s that noise or light?
We’ve all been there. Jump in the car, turn the key, and start driving and a light appears on the dashboard. You think nothing can go wrong until you hit the highway and hear undead noises coming from somewhere inside the engine.
Speaking of cars…
How high do you jump when a cop car turns its lights on behind you??? That’s scarier than monsters under the bed!
You hit the road only to find…
Horrors! You left your phone behind! You realize how deathly silent the day is going to be without the pings and blips of notifications trickling your way all day. That sense of dread has a name… Nomophobia… look it up if you dare!
Out of coffee on a Monday morning
It is a true terror to stumble out of bed on a Monday morning and find you neglected to restock the coffee. The panic that follows as you realize you’re too late to get into the coffee line, which means you’ll start your day without a caffeine zap. You accept your fate as you realize that this icy panic won’t thaw without that hot cup of joe which will have to wait until after the already scheduled morning meeting.
You find your favorite silk nightgown in…
The dryer! The terror of opening the dryer door only to find that ghouls and goblins kidnapped your beautiful silk chemise and carelessly tossed it into the washing machine on the regular cycle and then the dryer sends ice through your veins.
Real-life creeps up on us with its own set of terrors, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, Halloween is almost here, and you can face anything now that you realize just how much scarier things in everyday life are. Stay spooky out there and be sure to add coffee to your shopping list this week! If the ghouls and goblins played tricks on your favorite silk PJs, robe, nightgown or lingerie now is the time to hit refresh with our “Treats for Everyone” sale – take 40% off all sleepwear. Thanks for courageously reading and we’ll see you in the next blog!
